Of course you need to be in "online" rather than "offline" mode just as for the Gmail CrackBerry applet.
Now if I could just figure out how to get the Gmail applet to let me view my spam folder, it would be just about perfect.
An added bonus of the CrackBerry for LJ is that it encourages you to be concise.
Even the builtin MicroSloth Exchange client is pretty nifty. My main complaint with it is that you apparently can't ask for a return receipt. And my MS Calender is hosed due to bad / duplicate UIDs, so not all my appts will download to the local CrackBerry Calender. But, I'm hoping that someday the help desk will figure out how to fix that!
