Thanksgiving Dinner Debate at Chez Kovalcik
I assume that people who live in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia consider themselves Georgian rather than Soviet even if they moved away before the Soviet Union broke up?

Would it be safe to assume the same about someone who was born in what was then Austria-Hungary and later became Czechoslovakia and still later became Slovakia would be considered Slovak no matter when they emigrated (while it was part of A-H, part of Czechoslovakia, or actually Slovakia)?

My S-I-L is trying to convince us that we actually aren't Slovak, but are really Austrian-Hungarian.

Poll #1880533 Heritage

You would consider someone who emigrated from what was then called Czechoslovakia in the 1920s?
