I actually made it home in about 2 hours on Thursday. I did some snowplowing and left the cars at the top of the old driveway. Unforutnately we missed smozz's holiday party from work. Our plow service came around 10 PM and I went out and cleaned up after them (they don't see to understand that if you leave a dam around the bottom of a long driveway, it is going to fill up with melted snow and I really don't need a skating rink). The street plows came again after that.
Unfortunately, Friday morning the ~20 year old snowblower died with a destroyed belt. This was after I did the walk to the corner and the helped the neighbor but before I did the present the plow left at the end of my driveway. Fortunately, it was still pretty light and I was able to shovel it. I took the snowblower to the place I have been going to and they said it should be about $60 for a new belt installed. Now they are waffling and saying it might not be worth fixing because it will only last another year because the frame is bent. (This is the call I got at the start of the Arisia meeting.) That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, so I told them to go ahead and fix it.
Last night after people left, I finally managed to unjam the HP5000 after taking the top cover off. At least that is working now.
This morning it appears we got closer to 8-10 inches of snow rather than the 1-3 that was predicted yesterday. If I had known that we were getting this much snow, I might have tried harder to buy another snowblower on Friday. Fortunately I was able to borrow a snowblower from the neighbor across the street. So at least my walk and the top of the driveway is done. Unfortunately, the plow service hasn't been by yet.
